Feature of the week: A miracle of Sai

Once Sai Baba performed a miracle before which all other supernatural powers pale into insignificance. This was to revive the dead. Swami Sai Sharananand in his book "Shri Saibaba" wrote about this leela of Sri Sai. The daughter of the maternal aunt of Vasudeo Sitaram Ratanjanakar, who had come to Shirdi, had this experience. Tuberculosis had developed out of low fever the daughter was getting. As treatment of doctors had proved ineffective, she was being given only udi of Sai Baba as medicine. She also began saying that unless she had the darshan of Sai Baba, she would not get well. Though the girl's condition wad delicate, Ratanjanakar brought her to Shirdi and took her for Sai Baba's darshan. Baba let off a volley of abuses and said, "Let her lie on the kambal (coarse blanket) and keep her on water." Accordingly, she was given only water for seven days and on the eighth day the girl died in the morning when it was time for Sai Baba to wake up.

That morning Sai Baba was in chavadi but he did not get up at the usual time. It was eight 0'clock and yet Sai Baba was asleep! It was the first time in the history of Shirdi for Sai Baba to wake up so late. People began attending to the arrangements for the funeral of the girl. The girl's mother and Ratananjanakar's mother were weeping and other devotees were trying to pacify them. Just then the girl made some movement, yawned and looked around bewildered. All were gladdened on seeing this. Then the girl narrated the following account: A black man was forcibly taking her away when she called out to Sai Baba. Immediately Sai Baba belabored the man with his staff, rescued her and took her to chavadi. The girl had not seen Chavadi but she described it vividly. While all this was happening in Dikshitwada where Ratananjanakars were staying, people were discussing animatedly why Sai Baba was still asleep. Suddenly, Sai Baba got up in Chavadi, shouting loudly, and striking his staff on the ground, ran in the direction of Dikshitwada. There was excitement all around, and the hearts of the bhakthas (devotees) were filled with joy and wonder at the miracle Sai Baba performed in this mortal world.

Kondya Sutar was a devotee of Baba who loved Baba in his own special way. One day Baba asked Kondya to go to the Khalwadi (the place where the harvest is threshed) and put out the fire there. He said that the central stack of the harvest had caught fire. Frightened, Kondya rushed to the Khalwadi and made anxious enquiries but found no signs of fire. Returning, he complained to Baba saying that he had been put to unnecessary trouble and that his feet were scorched through walking in the hot sun. Baba replied," Listen. My words are never untrue. Look behind you and see the smoke for yourself. The harvest stacks lie close together in a heap but the central stack is on fire." It was a summer afternoon and a sprightly wind was blowing. Trees were breaking and roofs were flying. "Fire! Fire!" shouted the people of Shirdi as they rushed to Baba and begged him to save the harvest and thus save the people and the cattle of the village from hunger and death. Moved by their appeal. Baba got up at once and went to the 'Khalwadi." He poured water around the central stack, which was on fire. He then said to the villagers. "Only this stack will burn. This one is the share of Agni. Do not try to extinguish the fire. No harm will come to the other stacks." Baba's words came true. By saving the rest of the stacks, Baba demonstrated his power over Agni. All the five elements are in fact under the control of holy men like Baba.

In the evening people came for Baba's darshan, Nanasaheb among them, Baba said to Nana, "O Nana, look at these greedy people. Today the harvest of the Bhagchand (the owner of the central stack) burned down to ashes, and here he is moaning his loss. Gain and loss, birth and death are all under the control of God. These foolish people do not realize this. They dance with joy when they gain and start crying when they lose. The joy as well as the sorrow comes of a feeling of ownership but it is meaningless to claim ownership. The burnt-down stack did not belong to the Marwadi. It consisted of hay, which came into existence from seeds borne by the earth. The cloud watered them and the sun kneaded them into shape with his own hands. Thus, the earth, the cloud and the sun are the real owners of the stack. All things in this world are produced in this manner. We certainly are not their owners. Nana, ask the Marwadi why he is weeping over the loss of something which was never his and worrying me in the bargain. What the Lord gives with one hand, he takes away with the other. In our ignorance we think we are the owners of things and this sense of ownership is the root cause of our joy and sorrow. Shethji, go home now in peace. You will make good your loss in some other business."

Experiences of Devotees:

Devotee
Oh Sainath!! I do not find words to praise your grandeur .No words to thank you for the mercy you have shown. My mother who is an ardent devotee of our Sainath is been contracted with cancerous cells .She is having cancerous formation in her bones which in medical term can be treatable if not curable. But last week it was diagonised that the genesis of this cell was from stomach and it has spread to the bones which will results into an advance stage of cancer. We were all shattered. But the doctor asked her to go for an endoscopy in her stomach inorder to substantiate the veracity of the report. I was on tears,my family along with me prayed with tears to our SAINATH to save her from the jaws of death.Today thursday during Sai aarti, my thoughts was with my darling mother and was invoking BABA's blessings for her. Just as I was reading SaiVichar's Quote of the week where our Sainath says"I shall draw out My devotees from the jaws of death",at that moment I recieved call from my brother that they found no formation of cist or cells in her stomach.Albeit, diagonising is still under process but the major fear to some extent mitigated. What proof does one need that Sai is with them who calls HIM with love and devotion.I am sanguine that HE will take care of my beloved mother.

Sai Devotee
Sairam, I owe a lot to Baba and he is everything to me. Few months back I had a big problem at my job and Baba solved so amicably. This happened while I was watching few systems in our company. One of the systems was waiting for a file from another system and after waiting for 3 hrs at about 1:00 AM, I took the decision to go without the file. At 1:00 AM the much awaited file arrived and I was shocked to see the amount of money involved in the file , it was 249 million US dollars. Next day I was called for explanation and the whole day I was in tense about my decision. I was praying Baba to help me and resolve the issue. In the evening we came to know that the amount in the file was off by 2 million dollars and it was a bad file. The rectified file was sent that night for processing. Baba Saved My job. Om Sai Sri Sai Jai Jai Sai.

Devotees say...

Devotee
Thankyou Sai Baba for helping my son get good results in his GMAT and getting into the University of his choice. It is truly a miracle for us that after being rejected, the university agreed to review his case and give him admissions even after the date for admissions had closed and classes had also started. It is all due to your blessings. Thankyou Sai Baba for helping our family. May your blessings always be with us" Jai Sai Ram."

Devotee
Shraddha and Saburi (faith and patience), One without the other cannot stand. I have been sai devotee for over few years now. But not until recently, I have really been able to keep my both Faith and patience together. I have always had faith but patience was something I really needed to work on. Recently, I had a major leakage at my store which caused store just right below mine to leak as well. We placed a call to emergency plumber, who upon inspecting mentioned that he would have to take the entire wall down to replace Water Tank. I was quoted over 2500 to replace faulty water tank plus 8 hours of labor charge. Christmas being the busiest season for us, we had this dilemma of losing sales and were being harassed by the store below to fix the problem as soon as possible. I kept my faith and patience together with sai's name. Miracles were bond to happen. Very next day we had hired private plumber who upon inspecting mentioned that there was only minor clogged and was able to fix all the problems with in half hour without tarring any walls down. I strongly believe that it was sai who has come into rescue for his devotee yet one more time. Only this time, this entire incident has uplifted my faith to sky high which was achieved by keeping my patience. It's so true that one without the other cannot stand. Thanks Sai.
