Sai devotees in the St. Louis area, please refer to Sai activities section for information on Sai activities at the Hindu Temple in St. Louis. Devotees from Singapore and Los Angeles area are requested are post if they have any information on Sai Centers or other Sai activities in those places.

Propagating the message of Guru is an important part of a spiritual mission. In Bible, the role of the twelve Apostles was same. In ancient Hindu tradition we see examples of Vaishnavite (followers of Lord Vishnu) and Shiviite (followers of Lord Shiva) messengers whom dedicated their lives in the service of their lord. In Sai Satcharitha the services of Das Ganu maharaj stands out as another citation for such a mission. The roles of Ramakrishna and Chinmaya mission in the present times are other examples.

Electronic media such as Sai Vichaar and the Shirdi Sai web site organization, has a reach that is across the traditional boundaries. Thanks to Sai devotees and readers around the world, of all religions and faiths, for their continued support to this cause. Sai Vichaar has learnt that it is important to take into account of the differences in the culture, location, language, personal beliefs, and faith while spreading the message of Sai Baba. Devotees and readers contributing to Sai Vichaar may be aware of the above issues while reflecting the divine grace through their writings. Any attempts to adapt the content, language, style and presentation, appropriate for a worldwide readership will be more rewarding and fulfilling.

Question of the week for this week is

How does a Sai follower define Orthodoxy?

Humbly yours,

The Editor

Feature of the week: Everyone is entitled!

It is emphatically said by realized souls that experiencing Sai as He resides in oneself is the ultimate accomplishment of a seeker. Such being the case, toning down one’s outward bound senses and focussing on the inner-self may be what a seeker should consider. To a question asked by a devotee on where to find God, Sai said, “Awaken the inner-self, you will see the magnificent”. Everyone is entitled to this experience. Traits basic to humans of all sects and divisions are the tools to accomplish this. The true nature of the human self is beyond religious divisions, race, caste, creed or geographical origin. Devotion, discipline, tolerance, and humility are some of those virtues. Saint God of Shirdi has epitomized all these virtues. “I am an insect in the excreta”, said Sai once. Who would dare such a statement? Could there be a better way of expressing one’s pathos? Is this the worthlessness of the self at its lowest ebb? No, this is the epitome of Humility! If the God considers Himself this way, where does His follower stand? By this statement in His own way, Sai has stressed the value of humility and the everlasting happiness such a virtue could bring. Humility paves way to the destruction of the “self” and accomplishment of the union with the Omnipresent.

Experiences of Devotees

Mona, Sultanate of Brunei
Dear devotees of Saibaba, I would like to share my recent experience with all my brethren. This is regarding the way of doing parayan of Sai Satcharitra; last week I was in severe dilemma and totally depressed regarding my daughters job. though she was selected she was not receiving any information about it, the worry was killing us. so on a Sunday I took up the parayan of Sai satcharitra, I could finish the English version in seven hrs, with only a ten minutes break for a cup of coffee. after the parayan I offered prasad and had my lunch. After the parayan, I felt absolutely calm and reassured. On Monday, my daughter got her job offer. Sai Baba is always watching over us and those of you who want to do it you can do it in one day.

My pranams to Dear brothers and sisters. I would like to share the dream with you, which I got couple of days back. On that night, I went to bed after my night prayer and our merciful Saint of Shirdi showered his grace on me by appearing in my dream and gave a wonderful message. I was sitting on a floor with another person (whom I do not know nor I remember his face now) and our Lord was sitting in front of us, first He gave a small discourse on importance of Guru in which Sai reiterated that we must believe our Guru and follow the instructions of Guru without any doubt/thought. Sai asked me to follow the instructions of my Guru (Himself!) with full faith and assured me that my Guru will always be with me if I do so. After some time, I was fortunate as Sai served me the food!. I was again sitting with another person on floor and Sai was in front of me. First, our merciful Lord, served me rice and some dishes and I was very happy with that, then, Sai again served some dish (very little..a small spoonful) which I normally do not like. I did not say anything and within myself, I thought of leaving it without eating, as the quantity is very very little. But, Baba read my thought's and immediately wanted to takeout the dish from my plate and serve the same to second person. However seeing His move, I told Him that I will eat it myself as I did not want Sai to take out dish from my plate. Then Sai told me very briefly about the importance of the food and advised me not to waste the food and cook/serve whatever we can eat. What a wonderful message!!. Bow to Sai!...May all the beings in the entire world be happy!!

Dear Mala, I read about your problem on last week's newsletter. Being honest in no way makes a person right or good. Please do not console yourself saying, "at least I am honest" because you are still a part of wrongdoing. Your mother-in-law is suffering because of her previous karma. Our Sai knows exactly when to put an end to people's sufferings and then he liberates them. Being a Sai devotee you should know that our Sai Baba is the great wirepuller of this universe and He knows best. Do not waste your time, incur sin by praying for someone else’s end, and let time take its own discourse. Disregard your people's anger and do the right thing. Look after your mother-in-law and see lord Sai in her. Think that Sai is suffering and do everything you can in in every direction you can to relieve her from her sufferings. People who direct anger towards her will also be parents and they will repay for it in this very future. Never refuse food to the hungry. Mala, you may not want to hear all this but this is the truth. It is said in the Sri Sai Satcharita that sometimes Lord Sai proposes tests for his devotees. This is your test. Put your reluctance behind you and take this chance to prove yourself to your guru. This will be your prasad and offerings for this year's guru poornima. It is strange that although I am reading the newsletter every week I never ever did reply to anyone. However, in your case, I did not hesitate and my fingers just started typing out a message to you. You wanted advice and you have one. It is now your turn to act. " Maata, Pita, guru daivam ". message!

Please guide me like always and never let bad thoughts come into my mind. I really get sad whenever I think of bad things after watching a movie or even other wise. I just finished with my exam and was worried about the results. I know Sai Baba that you are always there with me and I really cannot live without your guidance. Bless our family Sai. We have full faith and confidence in you.
MAY SAI BLESS ALL

It was very pleasant experience to visit the Shri Sai web site maintained by your team. It is a treat for Sai devotees like me and my family. I was recently visiting the Sai Vichaar web page (Vol.2, Issue 9, July 22, 1999). The article by Mr. MRK from Phoenix, Arizona attracted my attention. In his article, he talked about Shri Narsimhaswamiji who wrote eight volumes on "Experiences of Sai Devotees". Being a devout Sai devotee, I am very curious to find out where these volumes will be available. I am very eager to read those. Do you anything about it? If not could you please forward this email to Mr. MRK and let him know about my wish to seek some help in this matter? I would sincerely appreciate your help in this matter. My email address is span006@aol.com Mr. MRK can contact me at this address or if you have his email address, I will be very happy to contact him.

This refers to a letter by Ms Mala Modgill in PRAYER CLUB Sai Vichaar - July 22, 99 : Volume 2, Issue 9. in which she has asked for prayers to give an end to her mother-in-law due to her old age and health problems. She has further mentioned that she is doing this because she is HONEST about her feelings and knows it is selfish and stupid and that her husband is fed up with his mother.
What else can we say about above, but that we are living in KALYUG. The definition of mother is this: GOD COULD NOT BE PRESENT IN EVERY HOME, SO HE CREATED MOTHERS. The mother, who sacrifices her lifetime to bring up her children, certainly deserves RESPECT and DIGNITY in old age. Surely, the above old lady does not deserve prayers for her end, just because she is physically incapable and sick. She deserves prayers for RESPECT, PEACE and HAPPINESS so that she may leave this world at her own destined time with DIGNITY. This is the least we can give to our elders. I pray that BABA gives WISDOM to all the persons concerned.
