The necessity to please the God by our thoughts and deeds is one aspect of Bhakthi tradition. Sadguru Sainath of Shirdi is fondly referred to as the "Easy God" or the God that is easy to please. The "Question of the Week" for this week is,

What are the most difficult demands of the "Easy God"?

Humbly yours,

The Editor

Contributed Article: Now, The hard way! A Poem

Sai, I know, You being by my side
I have nothing to hide

You taught me simple things
To have Faith and be Patient
But, I did not

And to Love
To share, care and be fair
Yet, I did ignore

You asked me to Give
And promised to Take ten or even hundred fold
But remained blindfold

Now, only way is the hard way
Let me keep everything else at bay

Show me the miracle of Your Stick
I am ready to build brick by brick
Show me Your Oil-Lamp's light
So I can bravely fight

Even if it pains
Boil the blood in my veins
Let me go through Your Dhuni
And, let pure gold come out
Along with Your holy Udi

I know, it would be hard on me
But easy on Me

Experiences of Devotees

JK Raman
I have lived in Delhi for over 40 years (that is more or less my total age as of now). I might have passed through the Lodhi Road area in Delhi a million times before 1999 when I first was invited by the Baba to be at his feet at the temple I really did not know anything about him as I just had faith in all the Gods worshipped in the South. When I first reached his temple I was taken aback. I found that he was looking straight into me. I could not ask for anything as I had tears in my eyes. I went back to my car, which I had bought in 1996, and there I saw a picture of HIM that I had had for a long time. What a coincidence? Actually, my sister introduced me to the LORD and she had by then started to immensely believe in HIM. Something in me was attracting me towards HIM and I did not know how to react. After a few visits, I picked up the courage to ask him for something that I never thought could be granted. (May be I was testing HIM). I cannot tell you what I asked but HE GAVE ME. I was amazed. BELIEVE ME HE IS GREAT, HE IS POWERFUL, HE IS AMAZING, HE IS STRONG. To all those who have problems that one can deal with give it to HIM. He will help. The only thing is believing in him a full 100 per cent. Amazing, we have never been to Shridi until 2000. In June of 2000, my two daughters, my mother and sister were outside the house and a group of people came close to them. One of the said that SAI had visited our house earlier but we failed to recognize HIM. He also said that we would be visiting SHRIDI in August. My children came inside and narrated the incidence. At that time there was no chance of our making it to SHRIDI in August. Also, my father discounted the whole event by saying that this man who said so must have seen my car with SAI'S picture, heard the aarthi being played in the house and have said that. To our amazement, we were all in SHRIDI in August. Had several DARSHANS. I believe that was HE HIMSELF who came and extended the invitation to us. Another incident, I was looking for an answer. I wanted to know if PUTTAPARTHI and SHRIDI are related. I did not know where to go for an answer. A friend of mine who worked with me (an ardent devotee of PUTTAPARTHI) came to my room and wanted to make a call to Hyderabad. He called a publisher and asked him for 10 copies of a book entitled SHRIDI TO PUTTAPARTHI. He told me that he would give me a copy of the book. This book is written by Dr. Kakade, an ardent devotee SHRIDI BABA. In that book, he states that he had the same question that I have. The answer was given to him. Yes, they are the same. Amazing, BABA knows what you want.

I would like to share my experience with all of you. When I got this project in Detroit, I was staying Ann Arbor, which is around 56 miles from Detroit. I used to commute for 10 days. When I was commuting, one day the weather was very bad, because of snowstorm. I used to go Ann Arbor by greyhound bus in the evening. On 5th march (Monday evening) I was waiting to get into the bus, but suddenly I heard some announcement saying they cancelled Ann Arbor bus . I was scared, I do not have any alternative to go Ann Arbor. All of us know about Detroit Downtown, I could not stay there that night. If I wanted to take a cab, I did not have sufficient cash with me at that time. I asked Sainath to take me home without any problems. Suddenly a lady who was working there came to me and said that another lady is taking cab to go Ann Arbor and she introduced me to her, and asked her to take me there. A Chinese man also came with us. She was an African-American woman and wanted to go Ann Arbor Downtown. I was worried that I did not know directions from Downtown to Willowtree appt, where I was staying. After that, I came to know that Chinese man is also staying our apartment complex. He knew directions to our place. After dropping her at her place, the cab driver took us to our place with the help of the Chinese man's directions. The African-American woman paid the total cab bill that amounted to $170.00 and asked us not to pay any more. It was a miracle. Next day I found accommodation in Detroit it self with the grace of Sainath maharaj. I am staying with a family that is very cooperative. I ask Sairam to bless this family. I finished my project successfully with his grace. I am looking for next project. I hope I will get next project very soon with his blessings. Sai nath maharaj ki Jai

Devotees say...

Jackson Hedrick
After seeing the two interesting submissions in Sai Vichaar features from the 7/12 & 7/26 issues, it occurs to me that the authors are both promoting the same argument. That is to find a true sadguru and follow that path in whatever way you can whether jnana, bhakti, or (I might chip in) kriya. The sadguru will provide the grace to more than match your effort and take your bird across to the other shore. First is the guru, only the guru. Thanks to the authors and to Sai Vichaar.

I am disturbed by the request made by Raj Mirpuri with his request in the Prayer Club asking devotees to pray that his wife who is expecting should give birth to a baby boy. It should not matter that he already has two girls. I wonder what age he is living in. Times are such that girls are equal to and excel boys in all fields. He should request our prayers that his wife should have a safe delivery with a healthy baby irrespective of the baby's sex. Personally being a parent, I find this request extremely insulting. BABA never discriminated between boys and girls but only preached and practiced equality in all aspects.

Question of the Week

Q. In Radhabhai Deshmukh's episode in Sai Satcharitha, what is the significance of Baba's mentioning about shaving the head?
A. by Syamasudar, Saibaba temple, Houston,TX.
An old lady Smt.Radhabhai Deshmukh came to Shiridi seeking a sacred mantra from Sadguru Saibaba and went on fasting until the fulfillment of her desire. Upon Shama's intervention Baba called her and told her His own story pleasingly like a loving son. Baba persuaded her to stop her fasting, as He Himself did not receive any mantra from His Guru. He followed his Guru's order, shaved His head, and submitted two paise (faith and patience) as offering (Dakhina). Although Baba served his Guru for twelve complete years with total surrender, he did not receive any mantra from his Master. Guru's blessing was the only mantra He received.

Here by shaving His head, Baba was rid of all His desires and served His Master with great devotion. The desires are the darker forces, innumerable in nature similar to the hair that grows on the head (desires sprout from the mind that is seated in the head). The countless extrovert desires dissipate the energy and enthusiasm of the spiritual seeker in seeking the ultimate goal. Also mundane desires are the root cause of endless sufferings and contribute to the downfall of an individual. In Bhagavad-Gita (II: 62-63) it is said that when a man thinks of objects, " attachment" for them arises; from attachment "desire" is born; from desire arises "anger". From anger comes " delusion"; from delusion " loss of memory"; from loss of memory the "destruction of discrimination"; from destruction of discrimination, he "perishes".

Also Goutama Buddha upon attaining His Nirvana realized the truth that the desires were the root cause of the human suffering and symbolizing that He shaved His head and preached the same truth in those times.

Sai in Vidyadanam (Help for the education of the deserving poor)
(Reported by: Dr.P.Sadasiva Rao, Saidarbar- Hyderabad)
The third Vidyadanam program was conducted by Saidarbar on July 31,2001 at Sri Saraswathi Sishu Mandir school at Srinivasnagar, Secunderabad, India The school is located in very a poor ambience and has been operating for the students of LKG to Third standard (5 classes only). The teachers were dedicated. The Head Mistress, Smt.Shanti Sri was working with dedication right from the inception of The school drawing a salary of only Re 1=00(rupee one only) per month. The school lacked a public address system useful in conducting daily prayers and meetings. The public address system consisting of an Amplifier, a Microphone and two Speakers were handed over by Saidarbar on July 31,2001 at 10.00 AM. This program of VidhyaDhanam would not have been a success but for the kind sponsorship of Smt & Sri Balakrishna Madapati of U.S.A. who have funded the purchase of the public address system. May Lord SAINATH shower HIS blessings on them.
