From the Editor's Keyboard...

Sai Vichaar wishes its readers and devotees a Happy, Peaceful and Prosperous 2002. May Sai bless us all with the longing to get closer to Him. Let His love permeate our lives as we move along from an unhappy and stressful year into loving and peaceful times. saibaba.org starts the year with Shri Shirdi Sai Baba Chithra Yatra 2002. Please visit Sai activities section for more details.

Baba sometimes used to keep the books given to him by those wishing to get them consecrated. He used to give them away to others who came to him for other purposes. Baba also spoke highly of Sri Tilak's work on the Geetha.

The "Question of the week" for the week is,

What is the significance of Baba giving away certain books to some people?

Humbly Yours,

The Editor

Feature of the week: Jesus from Shirdi

Jesus Christ was a personification of Devine Love. Christmas stands for love, giving, and forgiveness. Shri Sai Baba was an apostle of love just as Christ was known to be. Some of the miracles performed by Sai Baba are very similar to miracles performed by Christ as described in the Bible.

Stories of Baba healing the sick and the ailing and even those suffering from incurable diseases like leprosy are well known and too many. With Baba's touch and without any drops or medicine being put in the eyes, some blind men got back their sight. With His gracious look, some lame ones got their legs. Bhimaji Patil had chronic chest-disease that developed into Tuberculosis. Baba assured him with "the Fakir in the masjid very kind and He will cure the disease, and protect all with love and kindness." Baba cured his disease by giving him two dreams! Bala Ganapat Shimpi was cured of malignant Malaria. Alandi Swami was cured of severe pain in the ear. Shama was cured of snakebite. The Jamner episode of helping Chandorkar's daughter out of a difficult delivery by sending her Udi and Arti is a series of miracles. Baba's Udi cured people of Bubonic plague many times. The very first chapter in Satcharitha says that Baba pushed the Cholera epidemic out of the village by grinding wheat and throwing it on the village outskirts! These stories are simply too many.

Sometimes, He took the sufferings of His devotees on Himself. He assured Mrs. Khaparde whose son was down with plague saying, "the sky is beset with clouds; but they will melt and pass off and everything will be smooth and clear." but as He lifted up His Kafni, four fully developed bubos, as big as eggs were visible. He diverted the death of Ramachandra Patil and averted Tatya's death taking it on Himself.

Baba was in the habit of borrowing oil form the shopkeepers of the village for his little lamps that he kept burning the whole night, in both the masjid and the temple. Once, these merchants refused this little service to Him. Quite unperturbed, Baba filled his lamp containers with water and lighted the wicks-and lo, they started burning, and kept burning all throughout the night as if in defiance of the shopkeepers who later repented and became His disciples. Bible has a similar story of Christ turning water into wine to save the host of a wedding party from embarrassment.

Christ like, he could command the winds and the rain. One evening there was a terrible and destructive storm at Shirdi and the little village was flooded with incessant rain. The many local deities were sought to be appeased but in vain. At last, people flocked to the masjid and prayed to Baba to quell the storm. The great yogi came out to the edge of the masjid and ordered the storm to stop. At once, the winds, the rain, and the lightning obeyed His will and became still.

Most of all, Shirdi Baba was known for His motherly love towards all around Him, people, animals, and birds alike. He loved them as much as He loved His devotees and followers. He promised, "If one turns all his attention towards Me and worships Me heart and soul, is meek and humble, avoids the company of atheists, irreligious and wicked people, he will get ETERNAL HAPPINESS. His dishes will be ever full and never empty."

Contributed Article: Are everybody equal in Sai Ji's eyes?

I have been observing and reading various opinions in Sai Vichaar for a very long time. In my opinion some comments have been a bit harsh on others and reflects "ego" of the writer and a holier than though attitude. While others have been churning out so much of encouragement and refreshing strength that you can feel as if they are praying on behalf of a devotee. Many experiences have been so "Sad" and have been thought provoking. I am also aware that there are others who have deeper problems than we do. It can also be said that there are others who may have problems lesser or even equal to us. To tackle the problems one theme always resonates is that of "Saburi". My current experience and situation is embarrassingly a nagging problem and is biting me inside. This I have taken prayerfully to Sai Ji. For last 18-24 months, Sai Ji knows but has not shifted his finger even to help.

I have incessantly prayed to him morning and evening and during the days, thoughts linger on him and crave for his assistance. But no, his help does not arrive. Time ticks on, age goes on. They do not have "Saburi". Problem snowballs and hinders every turn you make in life that to does not have "Saburi". All attempts and efforts are made not to lose faith and pick up Sai Satcharitha (and re-read it in 7days) to get close to Sai Ji but that to does not answer and sway him to look at me and help me out of my predicament. Now I have began to understand how people have written experience on contemplating suicide, turning to alcohol, and unpleasant practices of life. I understand their actions though it is not right.

Questions that linger in my mind are, Are the leelas and Help for some selected once or for everyone in the universe who comes to the holy feet of Sai Ji?

Can Sai Ji give "Saburi" to time that is ticking along?

Can Sai Ji give "Saburi" to problems that snowball and become like a gigantic mountain crushing you?

Does perseverance and incessantly approaching him means anything to Sai Ji?

Longing for Sai Ji's help is like a thirsty person longing for water in a Hot Desert. That person who is longing is myself among others! Will greatly appreciate if in your prayers I am remembered too and request Sai Ji to help me. I commit myself and like to say that "IF" and "WHEN" I have my answers and receive help from my Sai Ji, I will write back and "EAT" my and recite my experience on your website. I will also encourage Saburi and help others to gain strength from my experience and thus faith in Sai Ji. But then until that happens there have to be real experience and then the ultimate conviction. A final word to those who have experienced Sai Ji's help. Keep it as a treasure because it is a rear experience and not for all to experience. Wish I could also experience it in my life! Om Sai Ram.

Experiences of Devotees

Surya
Dear Sai devotees, I narrate my experience when I first visited Baba at Shiridi a few years back and ask for His forgiveness for my doubting nature.

I went to Bombay to see my relatives and way back to Hyderabad, I went to Shiridi by Bus. On the way in Nasik, one young man in his early twenties boarded the bus and started conversing with me. I understood that he was also coming to Shiridi for Baba's darshan. When we reached Shiridi it was about 3'O clock in the morning and this young man suggested that we take rest for an hour and stand in the queue for Baba's darshan. When I got up to take bath, the young man offered to take care of my bag. Naturally, I doubted his motives. He again suggested that he would be waiting outside the bathroom and he asked me to finish my bath fast and come. Since I was speaking to him for couple of hours by then, somehow I could not refuse his offer and immediately went to take bath. Though I was taking bath, my heart and soul was with my bag. So, I finished my bath somehow and ran back to the place where I left. This young boy was sitting there with my bag. He then requested me to take care of his bag and went for his bath. I felt ashamed for doubting him. Later also, he was guiding me all along. After early morning Darshan, when others were going out, he asked me to stay back and said that Baba's Abhishekam was going to be performed and showed me a seat in the first row to have better view of the entire Abhishekam process. When everything was over, he guided me to a restaurant for my breakfast and when I offered breakfast to him, he refused to take and left saying that he had to catch another bus. Believe me, I went back to search for him but he was not to be seen.

I was thinking that he was just a stranger and he was trying to help me with some motive. However, later, I felt that Baba only came to help me as a young man but as a normal human being, I doubted his actions. I offer my apologies to Baba through this article. Om Sri Sairam.

I am going to narrate a Sai miracle and this is one out of a list of eight miracles, which has been witnessed by me in the last two years after coming to the UK. It was in January 2001 that my wife has applied for a government job in the UK and this was 100% impossible on many grounds. First, we were here on a temporary visit until October 2002 and secondly the local residents are more preferred than a foreigner. After filling the application and all the necessary documents, we all sat quietly and just praying to Sai Baba in the usual way. One fine morning she got an interview call asking her to appear personally before a board. Due to some personal reasons, we got it postponed for another day and to my utter surprise, it was fixed for some THURSDAY. After knowing this day, I was confident for my wife's success. As we do not have a car, so we took the public transport bus and reached the venue for the interview on the said day after performing Kakad arti. The clerks checked all her documents and after knowing and seeing the passport, that we are here for a temporary stay photocopied all the documents and prepared the file. After this, my wife was asked to go inside the room where the interview was to take place. During her interview, which lasted around 45 minutes, I was continuously praying to Sai to decide what is best for us. We all were very less hopeful about the result as they were having very strong candidates from the UK itself. After about one month, we got a rejection letter saying that you have been unsuccessful and if a vacancy exists then we might consider your case in the future. But this rejection here does not stop you from applying elsewhere and we wish you all good luck for your plans and wherever you apply elsewhere. In the month of April when we were still in the process of job-hunt and getting rejections from all places one fine morning in our post we found an envelope. Sensing the contents from the weight of the envelope, I thought that it is a usual rejection letter. Very reluctantly, I opened the letter and to my utter surprise, it was from the same government office asking us if we are still interested in the same job. In case you are still interested then contact us. I phoned them up and immediately a woman on the other side asked me whether I am interested in a Full time or part time. I told her that we are interested in a full time job and the next voice from the other side was of "Congratulations" and then she told me that in a fortnight you would receive a welcome pack for joining them. After 15 days, we got a welcome pack saying that she has been appointed as a Permanent Administrative Officer in a Child Support Agency of the government of the UK. I was not believing on my ears and just thanking Sai for the entire miracle that changed our lives.

Om Sai Ram It seems as if nothing seems to be going well for us these days. I was working in Delhi and expected to get a job here in Indian School, Moscow. In spite of my trying, so much I am just not able to get the job. My only hope of job was at this school. I need the job not only for money bur also for the social circle that I needed for the past 10 months. This is leading me to depression and I become cranky. We have also not been able to get a decent accommodation. Even his work is not going on so well. I notice that i have become so bitter in the last few months. I want to be the old self, free of worries and tensions. I just do not know what is going wrong with me. Earlier you used to listen to me every time I called you. You were always with me, why do I feel as if now you have left me.

In Delhi, I could go to Lodhi Road Mandir whenever I wanted to. Here there is no temple where I can go. Here I m all alone and you should care more. Please forgive me if I have done anything wrong. At times, I think may be I forgot to offer you some things, which I have promised. I do not remember Please forgive us. I have suffered enough during the past 1 year .I had to discontinue my "Vratas" on Thursdays because of health issues. I request you all to please guide me as to how I can invoke his blessings again and if I have forgotten to fulfill some of my "Mannats" how can I rectify it. Please let me know if there is any ritual, I should follow to please HIM. Please Baba Help me, Please Baba help us. Shower your blessings on us.

Rugmony Sivasubramanian

Our company and group is in a problem, I prayed lots of time to Baba, but I do not know if he is listening to my prayers, may be I did not tried from my whole heart! I have request for the Sai devotees, if they can pray to Sai Baba: Please help us and show us the right path to follow, if knowingly or unknowingly we have done something wrong, please forgive us and guide us to the right path. Please give us your darshan in a way that we get more and more devotee to you. Please put your feet's in our whole offices.

There is story which I have heard in Sai Satcharitha, that every day Baba use to grind the wheat and spread at the boundary of Shirdi to destroy all kind of disease to enter into Shirdi, I want Baba to come to our offices and stay here with all of us also forever, so no bad things can enter anymore into our office and show every one right path and we all in this company should stay together with Baba's and he should Bless us and the whole World all the time. OM SAI RAM JAI JAI SAI RAM! I thank you all the Sai Baba's devotees for praying and taking out time to read my request.

Hitesh Patel
You know I asked you to help me so that my family & i can go to a better place. Perhaps you decided that it was not a good time for me to move, but now I pray to you again to please help me to move to a better place so that my parent's last remaining years are filled with peace and happiness. They have suffered so much. I want to move from this place to one where we can all live together and where we can be together.

Please help me. I was praying to you every morning, but when the expected did not happen, I became angry that you are not listening to my prayers. I now realize that until you decide, nothing will happen. Therefore, Sai Baba I pray to you now, and ask that you make it possible for me and my family to move away from this place. I place all my trust in you, Baba. Please help me.

Sai Devotee
Baba, I am not getting any breakthrough in my research. I am feeling immensely pressurized both at work and at home because of this. I lost peace of mind now days. Please let me get a publication as soon as possible. I am starting the Sai Satcharitha parayana today. Please bless me to complete each day's parayana in a timely fashion without any hurdles. I experienced some kind of positive breakthrough whenever I finish a reading of Sai Satcharitha. However, this time I need a major breakthrough in order to survive this important phase of my life. I firmly believe in you, I know you are the only one that will be with me until the end of my pursuit. Please get a victory to my shraddha and saboori. Please do not let me down, Baba. I understand you are subjecting me to an absolute test of my belief. Please bless me to pass this test. Please show me a miracle to improve my belief in you, Baba. I am in a very bad mental condition now, I can get console only talking to you like this. Please punish and forgive me if I did anything wrong/unjust to anyone, Baba. You are my final resort; you have to show me some miracle in order to get back my vigor. Om Sai Sri Sai Jaya Jaya Sai!

Om Sri Sai Ram, I always consider you as my father. You have given me so much more than I deserve. Thanks for what all you have done for me. Recently I have been very unhappy. I am very depressed too. I miss my close friends in Atlanta. My husband's project in Charlotte is getting over by the end of this December. Our financial status is also not that good. I pray that he gets a good permanent job in a good firm with a decent pay in Atlanta. We want to settle down in Atlanta. We have many good friends there. Please help us and bless us. My desires are very simple. I am confident that you will shower your mercy upon us. I want to be ever devoted to you in this life. I want you to be with us every minute of the day. Guard us from all evil forces. Always bless us.

Merciful God, you made all of the people of the world in your own image and have placed before us the pathway of salvation through your saints and prophets. Look with compassion on the whole human family; take away the arrogance and hatred which infect our hearts; break down the walls that separate us; unite us in bonds of love; and work through our struggle and confusion to accomplish your purposes on earth; that, in your good time, all nations and races may serve you in justice, peace and harmony around your heavenly throne. (Amen)

Mfrspk, Lahore, Pakistan
Merciful God, please give to peoples of the world the required wisdom and determination, to learn to live in peace like brothers and sisters, by ending the divisions and hatreds created by our past and present elders. (Amen)
